What is Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia?
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) occurs as a result of abnormal accumulation of the lymphoid progenitor cells in the bone marrow, blood and extramedullary regions. ALL consists of a B-cell precursor lineage (B-ALL) and a T-cell precursor lineage (T-ALL) subtypes. ALL is subdivided into these subtypes based on morphological, immunophenotypic, cytogenetic and chromosomal properties. Both types are caused by structural chromosomal changes, changes in the number of copies in DNA, and sequence mutations that cause leukomogenesis. 80% of ALL cases are seen in children, but the results are more severe when seen in adults
